PROTANK 3 BY KANGER

Here we go, boys and girls.  After a short holiday delay, I am back to post about all the new cool vape stuff I got for Christmas.  I am going to be using some of this time off work to put out some info on new products that some of you may be looking at buying with that cash that Santa left in your stocking.  So today I am going to start with the Protank 3 by Kanger, which frankly has gotten everything from rave reviews to rotten tomatoes.

PROTANK 3 by KANGERTECH

This is Kanger's first AFAIK dual coil tank and I must say, I have to give it mixed reviews.  Firstly, lets talk about style.  If you have or have seen a Protank 2, then you have seen a Protank 3.  As far as I can see there is no real design difference in how it looks.  It comes in a chrome finish with a clear tank and the classic Kanger drip tip.  It has a 510 connection so it will fit MOST mods.  The difference lies within.  Instead of the usual style atomizer, the Protank 3 has a short nubby end with a gasket which pushes up against the inner stem that provides the vapor to the mouthpiece.  This is a dual coil atty, but since it is bottom fed, the wicks are short and barely visible like the typical Kanger coil.  Like other Protanks, it can be completely disassembled, and the replacement tubes for Protank 2 will fit the Protank 3, allowing you to replace broken tubes or swap the clear for another color.  It is a bottom fill unit, but the space is narrow, so using needle-type fillers is helpful in avoiding getting juice in the stem.

Now lets discuss how it works.  My girlfriend and I both got the Protank 3 for Christmas and we have had differing results.  I must add a caveat to this review in that we have both only been using them about 24 hours, so there still may need to be more adjustments made.  I am writing this vaping with the Protank 3 on my new Innokin iTaste 134 at 10 watts.  The flavor is pretty good, which is a step up for Protank in that the biggest complaints I have seen for these products is muted flavor.  It is not spectacular flavor, but better than my Protank 2 Mini, which I love.  The draw is very easy, and vapor production seems to improve as your juice sits in the tank, but I have cranked this thing up to 10 watts to get a noticeable increase.  It sits well on the 134, and there does not seem to be any threading issues.  However, my girlfriend is using hers on a VAMO V5, and if you have researched any of this stuff you know that Protanks and VAMO's do not play nice.  There is an obvious threading problem where the 510 connector just does not seem to thread smoothly, causing cross-threading and a loose wobbly feel.  If you can get it on straight, the adjustable beauty ring can be twisted up to meet flush with bottom of the tank and provide some stability.  Having used my Protank 2 Mini on my VAMO, I know tightening it down too far is BAD!!  This will destroy the threads on your VAMO, but I will post about my solution to that problem later.  The other issue she is having is flooding.  Now I know there are many reason a coil can flood, but this seems to be a unique Protank/VAMO thing.  Last night I put the Protank beauty ring/air flow adjuster on the VAMO after blowing out the coil.  This seemed to fix the problem for a while.  But I just got off the phone with her, and she says there is Noah-like flooding going on now, filling the battery connection to the point she was afraid it would get on her clothes.  I am still working on it, so if I find the right fix, I will post it here.

Ok, onto my impression.  Overall I like the Protank 3.  It looks nice on my mods and just has an overall comfortable feel.  The draw is easy, not too airy and not too tight, like other Kanger products. Flavor is much better than other Protank models, but no true comparison to any of the iClear tanks.  Vapor production is very good as usual for Kanger stuff, but you definitely need to allow some time to get a brand new coil heated up and wicking well before you will notice that.  This flooding issue my girlfriend is having bugs me, though.  A lot of people own VAMO's, as it one of the most affordable and easy-to-use APV's out there.  So I would recommend that if you do not have this, and the VAMO is your ADV device, consider getting something else.  But if you are a Protank purist, and I know you guys are out there, you will figure it out and love this tank.  The Protank 3 surpasses its brethren in all aspects.  I am going to give it 3 1/2 Vapes out of 5, simply due to the flooding.  I could possibly rate it higher if I can find a reasonable fix that is not difficult for the average vaper to do.
