KEEPING IT SIMPLE - WHY I LOVE THE KANGER T3S MORE THAN THE EVOD

Over the last six months, to say my vaping experience has changed would be tremendous understatement.  It's the weather, it was different yesterday than it is today, and it will probably be different tomorrow.  The one thing that has not changed however is my love for the EVOD. Perhaps the simplest BCC available, they are compact, produce great vapor, inexpensive, durable, and consistent.  Not to mention that their coils are available in virtually every single vape shop on the planet, and very simple to change out. Nothing sucks worse than killing some great juice with a burnt coil, and driving all over town to find them, only to end up at home ordering them online.  Because of these reasons, I love the EVOD.  Every vaper, seasoned vet or newbie, should have a good collection of them.

With that being said, there are multiple reasons that the classic EVOD vexes me. At the higher wattage I vape, it goes through juice like you are sucking it through a straw. The little window in the side to view your juice level has a difficulty level comparable to looking through a peep hole.  And it just doesn't hold enough to keep from carrying a bottle for refills several times a day.

Now I am tank fanatic. I have tried more than my share of clearos, cartos, and whatever else you can stick on a mod, and I have retired more than a few. But for the quick and easy, I never hesitate to grab a good ole EVOD.  So in my search to find the perfect EVOD, I gave the Kanger T3s a try.

The T3s uses the same basic principles of the EVOD, but with improvements on the above mentioned issues. For one, it's way bigger. It holds 3ml of juice, which for those of you keeping score, is the equivalent of a ProTank, iClear 30s, etc.   It is also translucent with graduated measurements printed upside down (so they are right side up when you fill it).  It still sucks through juice, but that's not as big an issue when you can pour so much into it. So in my opinion, Kanger has perfected their already solid EVOD.

In truth, you will have to pry my iClear 30s from my cold dead hand, but if you are like me, and grabbing an EVOD for quick outing has been your custom, pick up a T3s. You won't be disappointed. 

BLUE VOODOO, NEPTUNE, AND VAPENECTAR BY MR. E-LIQUID

The Vapeful Dead is back again with a review of yet another bunch of fantastic e-juice flavors.  I debated on whether or not to review each flavor for this one in a separate blog, or simply combine them into one big review.  So for the sake of all you vapers out there that need to know all you can before shelling out your hard earned dollars for a 30ml bottle of suck, I decided to review the similarities between these and then touch on each flavor individually.  

Mr. E-Liquid has got to be the undisputed champion of throat hit.  The hit you get when vaping any of these flavors is unmistakable, and you know you have some of Mr. E's on your hands.  It is consistent throughout all the flavors I have tried, regardless of nic level.  So if throat hit is your thing, then this just may be the juice you are looking for.  

As far as vapor production, it has been fairly consistent over all three of the flavors I am reviewing today.  You really aren't going to turn into Smaug the dragon from any of these, but the vapor is quite good, and plenty to please even the most seasoned vaper.  

And now...on to the flavors.

BLUE VOODOO by MR. E-LIQUID

According to Mr. E-Liquid this juice premiered at VapeBash 2013 and was such a huge hit that it sold out in only a few hours.  I would love to tell you that this is a blueberry, blue raspberry, blue bubblegum, blue velvet, blue bayou, smurf piss, blue suede shoes, ocean water, or anything else you might consider to be blue...but I cannot.  In reality, I can't seem to completely nail down the flavor at all.  But it's delicious!  By far one of the best flavors I have tried.  The flavor profile calls this sweet and tangy, and for the most part, I would agree.  Some people claim they taste blue raspberry, but this is not a raspberry flavored juice by no means.  It really hits the palate with more of a smooth berry blend than straight blue raspberry, and I don't really get blueberry at all.  As far as the smurf piss goes, you can judge that for yourself.  Excellent flavor and a great ADV.  I give Blue Voodoo 5 out of 5 Vapes.

**A quick note on this flavor.  The original product was indeed a bright neon blue color.  It looked absolutely amazing in a tank.  However, Mr. E-Liquid recently stated that in an effort to get the best flavor possible, all artificial coloring would be removed from their line of juices.  Having tried both, and after talking to a few folks that have as well, the now clear liquid tastes better than ever! **

NEPTUNE by MR. E-LIQUID

Neptune is quite a unique blend of strawberry, blueberry, and vanilla.  This is my girlfriend's absolute favorite, and one of mine as well.  This is much fruitier than the Blue Voodoo, so if fruit flavors aren't your bag, it may not be tops on your list, but you must try it before you judge.  There is definitely a creamy finish from the vanilla, but unlike some juices that try to add a creamy component, it does not feel heavy.  This is a great vape for hanging out by the pool, listening to tunes, or just rocking away on the porch.  The blend is quite tasty, not allowing any one flavor to come through, but giving a flavor that is all its own.  I have tried several of Mr. E-Liquids planetary themed juices, and although they are all good, this one is tops in my book.  The throat hit is milder, I assume due the creamy vanilla, but like other juices from Mr. E, it is absolutely there.  I am giving Neptune 4.5 out of 5 Vapes and listing it as a must try.

VAPENECTAR by MR. E-LIQUID

When you look at the flavor description of VapeNectar, you may be curious how blending vanilla, cantaloupe, honeysuckle, and raspberry could be good.  Well if you give it chance, your tastebuds will be rewarded with one most fruity sweet vapes you could ever imagine.  As with Neptune, the vanilla works to cut the sweetness, so you get a pure even flavor that is perfect.  Mr. E describes this juice as tasting like waterfalls, and he is not far off.  With a flavor reminiscent of an exotic island cocktail, VapeNectar is exquisite.  Easy to vape, not too sweet with a smooth finish, but definitely sweeter than Neptune in my opinion.  This is easily an all day vape.  In fact, I loaded my Hypertank with a full 5ml of this stuff the day I got it, knowing it would not need to be switched out until I was dry burning the coil.  I give VapeNectar 4.5 out of 5 Vapes, and the only reason I cannot review it as a 5 is that I know it will be too sweet for some of you.  Otherwise, it is spot on.

CHERRY OAK BY THE VAPOR HUT

One of my favorite local shops recently started carrying juices from The Vapor Hut.  Eager to try a new line of e-liquid, I quickly lined up almost every flavor they carried and warmed up my tastebuds.

As I sampled, I kept coming back to one in particular.  I couldn't really decide, until the girl who was helping us allowed me to try it from her personal dripper.  I was sold!  So what is this magic flavor, you ask?  Check it out here in my review of Cherry Oak from The Vapor Hut.

CHERRY OAK by THE VAPOR HUT

Based on name alone I wanted this to be great.  I have yet to find a really great cherry flavor for me, and well...this ain't it.  However, it is something completely different that totally grabbed me.  I assumed this would be a tobacco-based flavor (hoping it was not a cherry whiskey flavor a la Southern Comfort).  Fruit tobaccos for me are hard to take.  I fell in love with Thunderbird from Namberjuice almost instantly, and much like a wedding in Vegas, fell out of love with it just as fast.  Cherry Oak, as it turns out, is an absolute keeper.  Neither the tobacco nor the cherry are very strong.  In fact, the flavor is very subtle.  It is not sweet like cherries, nor is it strong and smoky like tobacco.  The best way to describe it is smooth and mellow.  The whole cherry tobacco thing is really reminiscent of pipe tobacco, and although that may be what the mix was going for, it does not include that really tounge-thickening aftertaste I have experienced in other pipe tobacco-style juices.

At this point in my vape life, I have lowered my nicotine to 6mg for most of the juices I buy, although I will hit 12mg on occasion. So the 6mg I bought is lighter on the throat hit than some may like, but I can crank the watts to 10 or 11 and get a pretty good one.  The vapor production can be summed up in one word...clouds!  I use an iClear 30s primarily, and this combination can completely fog up my truck.  I haven't really put it to the test on any other tank, but I would guess any dual coil set up will give you an equivalent experience.  

In review, I have to admit Cherry Oak is aces across the board in all the main categories.  The flavor is subtle but very good, the throat hit can be strong or light depending on nic level and/or wattage/voltage, and the vapor is outstanding.  Due the smooth flavor this is absolutely an ADV for me.  All in all I have to give Cherry Oak by The Vapor Hut 5 out of 5 Vapes.

THUNDERBIRD BY NAMBERJUICE

Ok, after a short hiatus to cross over to the other side of 40, The Vapeful Dead is back with reviews of some killer e-juice. Picked up some new stuff at Vulcan Vape in Nashville, TN and ready to post. Here we go.

THUNDERBIRD by NAMBERJUICE

If you have been vaping awhile and ever Google anything about it, you are familiar with Nick "Grimm" Green. Namberjuice is the creation of Nick and his wife Amber. This was my first chance to sample these juices and walked out with a bottle of Thunderbird. This is described as a raspberry tobacco flavor, but it is really more complex. The sweetness of the raspberry is evident on the inhale, but it doesn't overpower you. The exhale is where the smooth tobacco flavor comes through.  I have noticed that a lot of fruit flavored tobaccos just can't seem to get the mix right. You either are punched in the face by a heavy sweet juice or the tobacco seems to take over. Thunderbird is a very nice mixture of both. Exactly what a fruit tobacco should be. The vapor production is excellent and it has performed well in any tank I have tried. Good throat hit at 10 watts, but can easy be backed off at lower power if that isn't your thing.

Although I tried several flavors of Namberjuice at the shop, Thunderbird won out for this trip.  I give it 4 1/2 out of 5 Vapes as this one may not be for everyone, especially if you aren't into tobacco flavors. It's great for a morning coffee vape or just sitting around. Not sure if it will be an ADV, but the fact that it is not overly sweet could put it in that category.

DAVIDE GLASSOMIZER REVIEW

I promised some more info from my trip and I am here to deliver.  On my way back from Memphis, I made a stop in Jackson, Tennessee to visit Roar Vapor.  While doing research on shops to visit on this trip, I came across Roar Vapor.  Their website blew me away at the sheer magnitude of the selection of products they offered.  Unfortunately as I am writing this, their website is down, as they are updating and moving to a new site.  You can check them out at www.roarvapor.com as soon as they are up and running.  Great selection of e-juice flavors, clearomizers, mods, and accessories.  Today's review is on one of the products I purchased from them that I have yet to see available in any of the Nashville shops.  It is the Davide Glassomizer and I must say, I am quite impressed.

DAVIDE GLASSOMIZER

As the name would suggest, the Davide Glassomizer is glass tank clearomizer very similar to the Protank 2.  It features what the company describes as a "tank locking system" that uses no glue or threads on the glass.  It is a bottom coil device using what appears to be a Kanger-style coil.  It is 510 threaded so it fits most mods and ego-style batteries.  The tip is replaceable with standard 510 drip tips.  Although the product description does not list a volume, it holds the typical 2.5 to 3.0 ml.  The company says you can replace the glass tube with an available longer one to increase capacity, but I have not been able to find replacement tubes alone online.  It comes in silver, black, and gold metal (although I have not seen the black) as well as variable color glass tubes (which I have also not seen available alone, and the color options on tubes seems inconsistent from website to website).  The shop had a dual coil and mini option as well, but the coil on the dual coil model looked like it might be difficult to find.  But enough about how it looks.  How does it work?

It works like a dream!  Imagine taking your Protank 2, sticking it in a box, and waking up the next morning to find all the problems you had with it were fixed.  No flooding, no leaking, smooth airflow, easy draw, better locking tip, easier threading onto mods with no wiggle.  You name it, the Davide Glassomizer does it, and does it better than the Protank.  It completely disassembles, just like the Protank 2, but the glass is a smooth cylinder without narrowing on the ends, much like the Protank 2 Mini.  It fills easily from the bottom, and screwed onto my VAMO V5 and my iTaste 134 with no wiggle.  The draw is smooth and consistent, and vapor production is excellent.  The tip locks in nicely and is comfortable to use.  I was most impressed with the flavor.  The first thing I tried in it was a peach green tea flavor I picked up at Roar as well, and I was more impressed with each puff.  And as I mentioned before, no flooding.  I have been wearing this tank out over the last several days and no matter what mod, wattage, or position, I cannot get this thing to flood.

In short, the Davide Glassomizer is a much better Protank 2, and an excellent tank overall.  As I didn't try the dual coil model, I can't speak to how it compares to the Protank 3, but I really like my Protank 3, so if anyone tries it, please let me know and I will try to obtain one to review.

Overall I am more than pleased with the Davide Glassomizer, and I am giving it 5 out 5 Vapes for excellent vapor, flavor, and use.

GUMPY'S E-CIG SAUCE - POOLSIDE

Well I took a little road trip to Memphis this weekend and had some time to check out the vape scene down there.  I must say Memphis is lacking in its abundance of vapor shops, and could only find two anywhere near where I was.  This was surprising being that I am within about a 20 minute drive of at least eight really good vape shops, living just north of Nashville.  I will post a little more about my experiences in west Tennessee later, but tonight I wanted to post my review of one my newest favs.  Despite hitting a total of three different shops on my trip, I still had to cruise by one of my mainstays right in the heart of Nashville to pick up another bottle of Poolside by Gumpy's E-Cig Sauce.  My first bottle did not last a week, and I am really excited to share with you guys what I think is great all around juice.

POOLSIDE by GUMPY'S E-CIG SAUCE

At first glance, you would never guess this flavor to be a pina colada mix.  It's dark.  I mean really dark.  I mean vaping black coffee dark.  But don't let the color dissuade you.  This is like a vacation in a bottle.  Everything that makes a real pina colada great is in this juice.  I have tried several different juices saying they are pina colada flavored, but they have all seemed to miss the boat.  Most wind up tasting like car air fresheners.  Poolside is described as the perfect mix of pineapple, creamy coconut, and Jamaican rum.  The pineapple gives a little sweetness, but I wouldn't exactly call this a sweet juice, and the rum hit on exhale is just right.  It's the CREAMY coconut that really draws you in and makes this a complete flavor.  The creamy taste seems to be what other pina colada juices are missing, giving them more of a suntan lotion taste.  Gumpy's manages to balance all of the flavors so you get enough of one without overpowering the others.  Despite its dark color, I have not had any trouble with it gunking up my atomizers.  It vapes extremely well, with a mild but noticeable throat hit, and excellent vapor production.  I am usually vaping at 9 or 10 watts, and it doesn't seem to ever get harsh.  So far, I am having a hard time finding any negatives about Poolside, except that I can only by a 15 ml bottle at the vape shop.  All of Gumpy's flavors are available online and can be ordered from their website here.  Check them out.  They are a local company to me located in Smyrna, TN.  Hopefully I will be getting my hands of more of Gumpy's fair and will post reviews right here on The Vapeful Dead blog.

UNITANK BY KANGER

Two posts in one day?  Inconceivable you say?  Not so my friends. It appears to be a Kanger review day, so I am posting my review of the Kanger Unitank. I have been sitting on this one for a while, but I will get into that later. Also, I am adding an addendum to this review at the end for more advanced vapers, so check it out.

UNITANK by KANGERTECH

It would seem that hot off the heels of the Protank 2 but before the release of the Protank 3, Kanger decided to take a page out of Apple's book and release the same thing with new useless features.  OK, Ok, I will be fair and give it it's due before giving my impression.

The Kanger Unitank is a bottom fed single coil tank just like the Protank 2, with two very significant differences.  Unlike most bottom coil tanks, the Unitank is filled from the top, which is feature number one. The Unitank boasts a unique design in that the tank itself is divided into two chambers. The divider is spring loaded, so when you remove the tip to fill it, the divider seals off the bottom chamber preventing spilling of your e-juice.  Replacing the tip pushes down on the spring, and fresh juice flows into the bottom chamber to the awaiting coil below. Perfect for when you have to add juice while riding a mechanical bull or those pesky times when gravity reverses and all liquids float formlessly into the air. Seriously? I mean, this all seems well and good, but I have been filling top-fill tanks for quite some time and can honestly say I have never had trouble with liquid trying to escape unless I dropped it. And if you think this is great because you fill your tanks upside down... YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!

This tank truly looks over-engineered simply for the sake of being over-engineered.  Created specifically for those folks who would buy Kanger underwear just because it said Kanger on the ass. But if you think you hate it now, wait until you vape it. I can't really speak to how well this thing vapes out of the box, BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER WORKED WITHOUT FLOODING!  It flooded from the very first time I used it, and I mean full on sucking e-juice from a straw flooding.  It was virtually unusable. Trust me, I enjoy Kanger products as much as the next guy, but I was highly disappointed here. Like I said, I sat on this for a while. My girlfriend purchased the Unitank from one of our local vape shops as we were both patiently awaiting arrival of the Protank 3, and for what it cost, I expected much more.

So enough bashing, on to my impression.  POOR!  Yes... I think that sums it up nicely. To be fair, it is possible that we got a lemon and I am just tasting sour grape e-juice, and the spring loaded design may have nothing to do with it. Yet one of the great features of the higher end Kanger tanks is the ability to disassemble and reassemble them. With the Unitank, you now have more parts and steps to fumble with. Keep it simple.

I give the Kanger Unitank 1 Vape out of 5 for all the reasons listed above. If you have trouble slinging e-juice all over your kitchen counter when refilling your tanks this might just be for you, but I doubt it. My advice, go directly to Protank 3, do not pass Unitank, do not spend 21 dollars.

So if you are reading this and have already felt the pain of purchasing a Unitank, here is a simple solution for the more advanced vaper. My girlfriend, determined to not be defeated, researched and found people with similar issues on the Unitank.  One solution she discovered actually works, and works well. Take the coil out, or start with a fresh one, and remove the flavor wick. If you have rebuilt one of these before, you know how to do this.  Replace this with a much thicker wick. She used silica wick material to do this. Put it back together and give it a shot. We were both impressed, getting the good old Kanger vapor we were used to, as well as a nice flavor burst.  Certainly no one wants to have to do this every time, but it will make you feel better than the sound this thing makes when it hits the bottom of your trash can.
